Methods and Treatments

Chiropractors use manual therapy techniques called adjustments to treat the spinal joints and extremities.

Dr. Staulo uses many different techniques, some of which are uniquely designed for specific problems.

  • Flexion distraction is a very gentle and highly effective technique for relieving pressure on discs and stopping sciatic pain.
  • Logan Basic is another very gentle technique specifically designed for pelvic and sacrum or tailbone problems.
  • Activator and Thompson techniques are low force methods used for full spine and extremity adjustments.

Dr. Staulo uses a combination of diversified and gonstead techniques for traditional, full spine adjustments.

All chiropractic techniques are designed to help restore biomechanics to the spine or extremities. All techniques are gentle in application and extremely safe. Dr. Staulo will determine the best combination of techniques to suit the needs of each patient.

Supportive Care

Dr. Staulo uses moist hot packs to relax muscles before adjustments. Myofacial trigger point therapy is also used as needed before and after adjustments to relax sore muscles and relieve muscle pain. Therapeutic ultra sound and electric muscle stimulation are also available if needed for muscle pain or spasms. Massage therapy is available on the premises for the patients with more chronic or severe muscle problems.

As the patient’s condition progresses, a muscle stretching program specific to each injury is recommended. Instruction and monitoring of this program is part of the patient’s chiropractic care.

Exercise is often recommended in the intermediate and final stages of care. Restoring muscle tone and strength is extremely helpful and often necessary for the full rehabilitation of spinal joint or extremity injuries.
